National charity R U OK? has launched a new guide to supporting someone in the hospitality industry who’s doing it tough.

Hospitality is an exciting yet demanding industry where external pressures can have a significant financial and emotional impact. This has become more acute due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The added stress can be difficult for people to cope with both in the short and longer term and that’s why it’s always better to ask R U OK? if you’re concerned someone in your work family or the industry may be struggling.

The R U OK? ‘Mateship Manual for the hospitality industry’ provides guidance and tips to help you support someone at work, in the industry or in your personal life now and into the future. The manual was informed by the R U OK? Hospitality Expert Reference Group.

Up to 50% of employees with a mental health problem will not disclose it to their manager. Yet, to manage efficiently, managers need to know what is going on in their teams.

Before deciding if performance management is appropriate, managers need to know if there are mental health problems impacting the situation. They also need to know how to handle a mental health conversation in a performance management setting without making matters worse. The Workplace Mental Health Masterclass for Leaders shows you just how to do that.

How important is it to look after your mental health? Very, actually.
